PEX
PEX is where the European philanthropy infrastructure meets. PEXcommunity was jointly co-created at the PEXforum 2020 in Madrid, the first Europe-wide event bringing together leaders and experts from national, regional and European philanthropy support organisations.
The PEXcommunity brings together over 350 philanthropy professionals from more than 70 regional, national, European, global and thematic philanthropy networks. PEX provides space for collaboration, collective learning and action to advance the European philanthropy ecosystem.
Since its emergence in 2020, PEX has contributed to a more dynamic and action-oriented philanthropy infrastructure though a number of initiatives such as incubating the European philanthropy climate movement, the European Philanthropy Climate Coalition or hosting the flagship “What if? Reimagining Philanthropy” debates.
PEX spearheads meaningful connections and more engaging and participatory ways of working in philanthropy infrastructure.
Our goals
- Identify ecosystem challenges and find ways how to overcome them.
- Strengthen the role of regional, national, European and global philanthropy networks as enablers, incubators and developers of more informed, connected and effective philanthropy.
- Encourage leadership and collaboration to leverage the potential of philanthropy across the continent.
- Build the network of philanthropy networks across Europe.
PEXchange: Our pathfinder map
As philanthropy infrastructure practitioners, we passionately believe in the power of convening and collaboration, but showcasing the “added value” of infrastructure is not always an easy task. How do we create value for our communities and impact for the sector? How do we communicate this value in new ways? How do we make the case for the important role of open innovation ecosystems?
We created PEXchange to weave in the story of PEX from the past into the future, and reflect on the value philanthropy infrastructure organisations. Use it to identify the pain-relievers and gain-creators you create for your constituency and play around with dynamic tensions to design the future space of your network.
PEX evaluation
Following the PEXforum in Istanbul 2022, we embarked on an ambitious evaluation of the PEX community and its unique added value, and explored how PEX can be an equaliser in the philanthropy field, a space for experimentation, innovation and exchange, a space where relationships are at the core. Heart Mind Design created a comprehensive process to place the community at the centre and put in words what is felt and shared by a wide range of people and organisations in PEX. Based on these evaluation outcomes, we have formulated our purpose, goals and values and what difference PEX makes.
