FOCUS: Philanthropy
There are many stories of how people and foundations across Europe come together to help and support each other but these are rarely the subject of mainstream reporting. FOCUS: Philanthropy is a Europe-wide photo contest that tells visual stories of the people behind philanthropy and how they work for a better Europe. Join us to showcase European solidarity and submit your story.
Thanks to your great involvement around FOCUS: Philanthropy we have collected over 90 stories from across Europe, 30 of which were shortlisted. The three winners will be announced on 1 October at our event celebrating the European Day of Foundations and Donors.
In preparation for this big day, we have launched a campaign to share the stories we have collected, and we invite you to join us by actively engaging in the campaign and sharing your own stories. #EuropeTogether is our way of highlighting cross-border solidarity, while #WeArePhilanthropy hopes to encourage people working in philanthropy to tell their stories. We have also created a social media toolkit to give you some ideas of how you can get involved.
The outbreak of coronavirus required foundations across Europe to step beyond their comfort zones and rapidly respond to new and intensified challenges by showing solidarity and support. Today’s crisis has demonstrated how fragile our societies are and how much we are in need of solidarity, yet the many inspiring stories that demonstrate this solidarity rarely feature in mainstream reporting.
We wanted to capture these moments of support and solidarity by inviting European foundations and national associations – as well as NGOs and individuals supported by foundations – to submit inspiring photo stories of how they and their beneficiaries hold together and encourage collaboration in their everyday work through these difficult times.
You can join us by taking part in out campaign in the lead up to the European Day of Foundations and Donors. We encourage you to share stories, pictures, video, quotes, organise workshops, conferences, volunteering days, raise funds, launch reports, help local communities or activate your followers on social media.
Our stories are more powerful together! We can show the human face of philanthropy and together demonstrate how across Europe – from Portugal to Russia, from Norway to Turkey – #WeArePhilanthropy.
