Funders International Network for Development – Delivering on Our Shared Purpose to Collaborate and Find a Common Voice
The Funders International Network for Development (FIND) will come together to explore “Delivering on Our Shared Purpose to Collaborate and Find a Common Voice” on 3-5 December in Brussels.
How can we channel high-quality funding as effectively and directly as possible to local actors, while also ensuring mutual accountability? Do we have a common voice as European philanthropy when dialoguing with multilateral/intergovernmental/supranational organisations?
Funders have a complex challenge at hand and have responded in various ways. Some funders have decentralised operations from the Global North to the Global South, while others have modified their grantmaking practices to be less top-down and more flexible. Other funders have focused on improving the internal diversity of their teams and boards or have centred the active engagement of local partner organisations in their strategy development, agenda setting, spending decisions, monitoring and evaluation, and exit practices.
The gathering in Brussels will advance mutual understanding between the members of FIND by presenting how each organisation is working internationally, with a focus on Africa, and how each interprets “locally-led development”, including the appetite to hold each other accountable for advancing the three principles of the “Donor Statement on Supporting Locally Led Development“. The event will, under Chatham House rules, weave conversations into a common voice as European philanthropy for future exchanges with the European Commission and other stakeholders. It will seek to consolidate the participation of Philea members in the FIND group by clarifying the levels of engagement and collaboration.
The peer-learning programme is co-designed with New Silk Roads, a consultancy collective operating from Cairo, Tunis, and Amsterdam, which is developing and facilitating the FIND peer-learning journey on international cooperation over the course of 2024 and 2025.
The event will take place after EuroPhilantopics 2024 to facilitate participation to both events, however separate registration is required for both.
