Philea launches dedicated “Year of Climate and Environment”
In 2026 Philea will put a spotlight on the theme of climate and environment, seeking to expand the conversation on the work of philanthropy in this field and highlight the work already taking place.
Highlighted by Philea’s membership, Philea’s cross-cutting themes of climate and environment, democracy and equality are all deeply interconnected with each other and broader societal challenges critical to people and planet alike, both in their root causes and their impacts.
In the following twelve months, Philea will work to ensure that:
- We expand the climate and environmental conversation to engage diverse foundations and philanthropy infrastructure organisations (and not only those already involved in climate and environmental work).
- We are courageous in surfacing complex, overlooked or challenging issues that are frequently neglected in philanthropic agendas. These issues also include the internal practices of foundations, particularly their investment activities.
- We equip and encourage philanthropy practitioners to translate insights gathered into tangible action, including or maintaining climate and environment as a strategic priority across their decision-making despite complex, shifting and often unsupportive political landscapes.
- We are able to show progress on our own implementation of Philea’s internal sustainability policy.
The Year of Climate and Environment follows on from last year’s focus on equality, while in 2027, the final year of Philea’s Strategic Plan 2023-2027, the focus will be on democracy.
