Philea elects new Board of Directors at 2026 Annual General Assembly
Philea members elected a new Board of Directors for the 2026–2028 term at today’s Annual General Assembly in Copenhagen. The new board, which represents the breadth and diversity of Philea’s membership, will steer the organisation’s strategic direction over the coming years.
Philea members confirmed Liisa Suvikumpu of the Association of Finnish Foundations as President for the 2026-2028 term, and Megan Challis of the Wellcome Trust as Vice-President, following the board’s recommendation. Their appointment marks the beginning of a new leadership mandate focused on collaboration, continuity and support for a diverse and engaged philanthropic community across Europe and beyond.
“Our societies are becoming more fragmented, trust is becoming more fragile, public debate is harsher, and geopolitical tensions are growing,” said incoming President Liisa Suvikumpu. “Many people are asking who will help hold together the long-term thinking, human dignity and democratic resilience that open societies require. I believe philanthropy has an essential role in answering that question. But none of us can do it alone. That is why Philea matters.”
Incoming Vice-President Megan Challis said, “At a time when the challenges facing our communities are increasingly complex, the way we work together matters more than ever. This new board team brings together a wide range of perspectives and experience that will enable us to lead effectively, make thoughtful decisions, and support Philea’s members and the wider community with clarity, openness and purpose.”
In addition to electing new members of the board, the Annual General Assembly also elected a new Chair and Vice-Chair for Philea’s Nomination and Governance Committee (NGC) and three new members of its Advisory Committee.
“This new board and leadership team bring together deep experience, strong commitment and a shared sense of purpose,” said Delphine Moralis, CEO of Philea. “As they take on this mandate, they will build on the important work carried forward under the previous leadership and help strengthen Philea as the agile and strategic backbone the philanthropic sector needs in these particular times. We also extend our sincere thanks to outgoing President and Vice-President Angel Font and Carola Carazzone for their leadership, dedication and valued contribution to Philea over the past mandate.”
The 2026 Annual General Assembly took place ahead of the Philea Forum – Philea’s annual flagship event which takes place this year from 18-21 May in Copenhagen under the theme “Philanthropy for People and Planet”.
