Organisational Development Community of Practice – How Can a Process of Introspection Help Grantmakers Better Support their Partners?

The Organisational Development (OD) Community of Practice is organising “How Can a Process of Introspection Help Grantmakers Better Support their Partners?” in Venice, Italy on 20-21 March, hosted by Fondazione Generali The Human Safety Net Onlus.

There is a growing awareness in the philanthropic sector of power dynamics and how they impact grantmaker-grantee relations. New trust-based or power-shifting practices are emerging throughout the sector, and this is grabbing the attention of many funders. How power interplays with OD was explored at the last in-person event of the community in March 2023. When providing support to partners, ideals and values are often placed and emphasised upon them, sometimes without reflecting if these are in-built internally.

To explore this further, the OD Community of Practice will dedicate the second in-person gathering to the theme of “How Can a Process of Introspection Help Grantmakers Better Support their Partners?” This will be an ideal opportunity for OD practitioners to collectively explore and investigate how their own organisations can “walk the talk”, and be better placed to address power imbalances between funders and grantees and support the resilience of partner organisations.

The event will centre on a Reinventing Organisations workshop, strongly inspired by the book by Frederic Laloux. Space will then be given to reflect and zoom into how these realisations impact day-to-day work, further the transformational power of OD support and help balance the power issues that manifest in OD support.
