Funders International Network for Development – Advancing Youth-Led Local Development

The fourth webinar of the “Evolving Practices of International Cooperation” peer-learning journey will take place on 19 February January exploring “Advancing Youth-Led Local Development” organised by the Funders International Network for Development (FIND).

Amidst a turbulent time, particularly with the USAID funding freeze severely affecting local organisations across Africa, the conversation around locally-led development has become more critical than ever. In this session we will zoom in on how youth can be at the centre of locally-led development in Africa.

Young people are often celebrated as the leaders of tomorrow and as the innovators and changemakers of today. However, locally-led development means not only acknowledging the innovative capabilities of youth but also actively engaging them in the funding strategies that affect their lives and futures.

This session will explore different strategies that place youth at the core of locally-led development efforts in Africa. But more importantly, we will discuss practical ways for FIND members to collaborate on this topic. During this session, we will create a shared value chain between the different foundations advancing youth-led change in the room. In particular, we will discuss how member initiatives complement and build on each other, ranging from skills development and STEM education for workforce readiness, to fostering open innovation, ideation, and scaling up youth entrepreneurship through incubation and acceleration programmes. How can we maximise our strengths and synergies at a time when its most needed?

This webinar is part of the “Evolving Practices of International Cooperation” peer-learning journey dedicated to reimagining traditional philanthropic models and exploring new forms of international cooperation tailored for the 21st century.
