Communications Professionals in Philanthropy – Narratives in Action: Building Campaigns that Connect Across Divides
The Communications Professionals in Philanthropy Community of Practice will host “Narratives in Action: Building Campaigns that Connect Across Divides” online on 17 June.
We are living through a profound transformation in the way societies communicate, engage, and form collective meaning. The rise of hyper-polarised political figures, threats to free speech, and the viral spread of disinformation have exposed critical vulnerabilities in our traditional infrastructures of trust and public discourse.
How can we reframe polarising issues to build inclusive narratives that still drive urgency and engagement across different communities? What role do emotional tone, language patterns, and cognitive biases play in shaping whether a message bridges divides or deepens them? In an attention-driven media ecosystem, how can we design campaigns that are both strategically effective and ethically sound?
This session will focus on applying narrative analysis techniques to create communications strategies suited to today’s emotionally charged public debates. Participants will examine how communication styles have evolved in an era of heightened polarisation and will learn how to reframe narratives that foster connection across diverse audiences.
