Challenging Chances – Escape in Pictures
On display in Philanthropy House from 29 March to 14 June 2017, the exhibition ”Challenging Chances – Escape in Pictures” provided an eye-opening display of photo stories from people who have sought refuge in Germany, produced by Bertelsmann Stiftung.
Created in collaboration with the photo agency laif, the exhibition features photographers who accompanied refugees in their search for a better life, from the start of their journey, until their arrival, creating both harrowing, and tender photographs.
The subject of refugees is ongoing and no longer an abstract phenomenon. Integrating refugees through education, work and communities are matters that host countries must confront. Out of desire to keep this subject high on the agenda, Bertelsmann Stiftung’s photo project aims to shine a light on the situation of people seeking refuge and contribute to the overcoming of cultural bias.
