TUSEV launches Pledge to Combat Climate Change
TUSEV (Third Sector Foundation of Türkiye), with the support of the Sabancı Foundation, has launched the Türkiye Commitment to Combat Climate Change on 16 June, a framework for civil society organisations including foundations to integrate climate across their work, on 16 June, joining the growing, global Philanthropy For Climate movement.
The commitment launched with 30 signatories from across Türkiye who commit to integrating climate across their work through the following pillars:
- Creating training and learning opportunities
- Mobilising resources for climate
- Integrating climate perspective into existing programmes.
- Making climate-friendly financial decisions
- Reducing the environmental impact of operations
- Creating spaces of solidarity
- Sharing progress and results
The Türkiye Commitment represents the 12th locally-led Philanthropy For Climate Commitment. These commitments are initiatives through which national or regional philanthropy infrastructure organisations and foundations work together to mobilise philanthropic organisations of all sizes, types and mission areas to integrate climate from governance to grantmaking. There are now 992 signatories across the different Philanthropy For Climate commitments.
The scale and urgency climate crisis demand a whole-sector, systemic and collaborative approach that transcends individual efforts and geographic borders. This requires strategies which are aligned and coordinated locally, nationally, regionally, and globally. In countries lacking a national or regional commitment, the International Philanthropy Commitment on Climate Change, coordinated by Philea and WINGS, provides a global entry point for foundations looking to take action.
Movement-wide progress tracking found that 98% of 452 responding signatories have made progress towards implementation and 88% shared that signing the commitment has impacted their awareness and action.
