Philea signs open letter urging Commission to reverse European Cross-Border Associations (ECBA) Directive withdrawal

Philea has signed an open letter, alongside 250+ organisations, urging the European Commission to reverse its proposed withdrawal of the European Cross-Border Associations (ECBA) Directive.

A broad coalition of civil society, philanthropy, non-profit and social economy actors has sent an open letter calling on the European Commission to reverse its decision to withdraw the ECBA Directive. The directive would help remove legal and administrative barriers for associations operating across borders, including by supporting recognition and smoother cross-border activity—an important step towards a stronger single market for public good and an enabling environment for civil society.

The ECBA was presented by the European Commission in September 2023, approved in the first reading by the European Parliament in March 2024, and is under discussion by the European Council.
