Philea re-launches Evidence and Learning Community of Practice to strengthen MEL practice in philanthropy
Philea has given a new start to the Evidence and Learning Community of Practice, a peer-learning community bringing together foundation professionals to explore new paradigms and practices in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL).
In a sector where learning is increasingly shaped by uncertainty, interdependence and shifting contexts, the community aims to provide a trusted environment for practitioners to learn from one another and feel empowered to strengthen evidence and learning approaches within their organisations and across philanthropy.
The work of the community centres on learning and evidence in complexity; learning with grantee partners to understand and shift perspectives; participation and equity in MEL design and implementation; blending different forms of evidence and data to inform strategy and adaptation; and building adaptive MEL frameworks and processes. Activities include in-person convenings, online webinars, shared resources and knowledge products.
Emerging from an informal group back in 2023, the community has since evolved into a well-defined structure with 23 member organisations who share the recognition that conventional MEL often struggles to capture systems change, complexity and emergent outcomes. The more coherent community creates a consistent space for practitioners to test more adaptive approaches and translate learning into decisions within their organisations.
All Philea full members can join the community through a tiered community membership fee.
