Philea opens survey on environmental funding in Europe
Philea, through the European Environmental Funders Group (EEFG) has launched a survey on environmental funding by foundations in Europe, seeking to provide an overview of philanthropic giving in this field and create the 7th edition of its flagship report, Environmental Funding by European Foundations, the leading resource tracking how European philanthropy supports environmental action.
Environmental challenges continue to demand urgent and coordinated responses, and philanthropy plays an important role in advancing solutions. Tracking funding patterns helps the sector understand priorities, gaps, and opportunities for greater impact.
The mapping is not just a data exercise, it’s a tool to help foundations, CSOs, policymakers, and researchers understand the landscape, identify opportunities and strengthen collective impact.
The 6th edition, based on 2021 data, analysed 8,518 environmental grants from 126 major foundations, representing a total of €1.6 billion in funding. This was more than double the value captured in the previous edition, reflecting the growing commitment of European philanthropy to environmental causes.
Take the survey before 31 September.
