EUknow.it: A new gateway to European programmes and partnerships

The European Union is entering a decisive phase. With the current Multiannual Financial Framework approaching its conclusion and discussions on the 2028-2034 cycle gaining momentum, the need for collaboration between foundations and European institutions is more pressing than ever. Both share common challenges, common values – civic engagement, social inclusion and territorial development – and both strive to empower communities and address systemic challenges. Yet, translating these shared ideals into impactful projects requires more than goodwill: it demands knowledge, capacity and networks that span borders.

Why collaboration matters now

The next programming period will likely introduce new priorities and instruments, alongside a growing emphasis on partnerships. Foundations, with their deep roots in local communities and long-standing commitment to social innovation, are uniquely positioned to complement EU programmes and funds. By aligning their efforts with European strategies, they can amplify impact, leverage resources and foster sustainable growth.

However, navigating the complexity of EU funding – structural funds, thematic programmes, territorial cooperation – remains a challenge for many organisations. Limited access to structured information, technical expertise and collaborative networks often hinders participation. This is not just an Italian issue; it is a European one. And it is precisely in this context that EUknow.it offers a timely and strategic solution.

Introducing EUknow.it

EUknow.it is a newly launched platform designed to make European project design more accessible, effective and collaborative. Developed by Fondazione CRT in partnership with Acri and nine other Italian foundations, EUknow.it builds on the legacy of the Guida all’Europrogettazione, a resource that has supported thousands of organisations over the past decade. Today, it evolves into a richer, more interactive, and international tool – open to all, free of charge and updated weekly.

What makes EUknow.it distinctive is its comprehensive approach. It is not just a repository of information; it is an ecosystem of knowledge and practical tools. The platform offers:

  • A structured manual on European project design, covering fundamentals, methodologies, and operational steps – from preparing proposals to managing partnerships, monitoring and reporting.
  • Programme sheets for every EU funding stream, including structural funds, national and regional operational programmes and cross-border cooperation initiatives. Each sheet provides regulations, calls for proposals, examples of funded projects and links to official sources.
  • A funding portal, thematic insights and a glossary to clarify technical language.
  • Multimedia resources – news, interviews, case studies, audio and video materials – to keep users informed and inspired.
  • Accessibility features such as keyword search, tagging and text-to-speech functionality, alongside multilingual content in English, French and German.

All content is drawn from official sources and designed for both experienced professionals and newcomers. With over 1,500 content folders, more than 100,000 annual users and a community of 16,000 followers, EUknow.it is already one of the most recognised platforms in Italy – and increasingly relevant beyond national borders.

A story of partnership

EUknow.it is the result of a collaborative model that reflects the power of collective action. Led by Fondazione CRT and supported by Acri, the national association of Italian foundations, the project brings together major philanthropic actors such as Fondazione Cariplo, Fondazione CRC, Fondazione Caritro, Fondazione Cariverona, Fondazione CR Firenze, Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Bolzano, Filiera Futura, Fondazione di Sardegna and ASVAPP. This alliance demonstrates how foundations can pool expertise and resources to create shared value, a principle that resonates strongly with Philea’s vision of a connected and impactful philanthropic sector.

The journey began nearly twenty years ago with two printed editions of the Guida all’Europrogettazione in 2006 and 2008, followed by its digital launch in 2015 and a major update in 2021. Over time, the platform has become a trusted companion for universities, public administrations, third-sector organisations and professionals. Today, EUknow.it consolidates this heritage while embracing a broader, more international perspective.

Looking ahead

The launch of EUknow.it is not an endpoint but a starting point. The platform is designed to grow, incorporating new tools and fostering dialogue among users. Its partnership model – rooted in collaboration among Italian foundations – offers a blueprint for broader European engagement. As the 2028-2034 programming cycle approaches, expanding this network could unlock significant potential for joint initiatives, knowledge exchange and advocacy.

Foundations and European institutions share a common mission: to improve the lives of citizens, strengthen civic participation, and promote sustainable development. EUknow.it is an invitation to explore this potential. It is a practical tool, a knowledge hub and a starting point for new partnerships – within Italy and across Europe.
