Maecenata Stiftung publish “Understanding Civil Society in Europe” a study on the composition of civil society in Europe
Maecenata Stiftung has published “Understanding Civil Society in Europe” a new study offering a brief overview of the composition of civil society in Europe.
The publication, commissioned by Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen, assesses the scope and scale of European civil society and to what extent it is visible and active in the European public sector. It finds that despite the numerous differences from country to country with regard to function, status, relationship with the state and market, and more, civil society is not a recent phenomenon or short-lived fashion, but belongs to European cultural traditions, has well established structures, and will remain a decisive factor and driving force in the development of Europe.
