Knowledge
We build our knowledge base on European philanthropy – in partnership with academics, researchers and experts – by surveying the work of philanthropy organisations, and identifying trends and issues affecting them, with the aim of helping Philea members to inform their strategic decision-making and connect them with peers and partners, as well as demonstrating to a range of stakeholders the impact, diversity and scale of the sector.
Data on the sector
It is estimated that there are 186,000 foundations in Europe. These foundations manage 647.5 billion euros in assets and endowments and give an estimated 54.5 billion euros annually.

Since 2002 Philea has mapped the legal and fiscal operating environments for philanthropy across the EU.

Providing data insights on European philanthropy and making the accumulated knowledge of members accessible are among the top priorities for Philea.

Philea curates this publicly-available, fully-searchable collection of more than 1,000 free-to-download publications on philanthropy and foundations.
