Futures School: Executive Leadership Programme

The Futures School: Executive Leadership Programme is a comprehensive initiative designed for senior leaders in philanthropic organisations to raise their ambition and make progress in the face of uncertainty.

The Futures School: Executive Leadership Programme focuses on organisational transformation and invites executive teams and individuals working on a real-life challenge and gives a platform to leaders who are on a transformation journey and are eager to grow, learn, exchange and connect as people and professionals.

The leaders selected for this programme will receive support from Philea, its partners Bikubenfonden, CIFS, Famtastisch Stiftung, Hans Wilsdorf Foundation, Kamel Lazaar Foundation, and Stiftung Mercator Schweiz and the wider Philea community to bolster their anticipatory capacity, strategic decision-making and ability to evaluate risk and drive progress on issues related to climate and biodiversity, technology, democracy and the just transition.

Why join the Futures School: Executive Leadership Programme?

The attention of most funders is to crisis response. Societal shifts are increasingly complex and interconnected, necessitating innovative approaches and collaboration. Leaders are facing a great deal of uncertainty how to deal with these shifts and prioritise finite resources, when demands are rising, and it is not easy to make a choice. Leaders need to focus on anticipation and laying the ground for addressing risks before they become the next big crises.

The Futures School: Executive Leadership Programme equips philanthropy leaders with foresight skills, strategic decision-making tools, and a Europe-wide network to navigate uncertainty and drive long-term impact.

I have been part of Philea Futures Philanthropy initiative from its very beginning. It has challenged my way of thinking and inspired our four-year strategic plan at Compagnia di San Paolo that has centered the concepts of trust, risks, and flexibility. I believe it is the biggest role for philanthropy to embrace innovation and provide a space for experimenting with new approaches and be truly strategic. This is what the Futures School is about.

Inspired by Futures Philanthropy initiative, we have recently launched Turkish chapter of Futures Philanthropy initiative. At times of mounting crises, futures thinking offers philanthropy leaders tools to think anew, challenge our existing assumptions about the future and cultivate a mindset that embraces the uncertainty of the current moment as an opportunity

Rana Kotan

Secretary General, Third-Sector Foundation of Turkey
I participated in the Futures Philanthropy gathering of leaders that is now pioneering Philea Futures School and connected with like-minded, forward-thinking peers from across Europe who would encourage me to continue my work and embed the principles to the evaluation process we are now rolling out at Gulbenkian Foundation
