Gender Equality Network
This network aims to facilitate mutual learning and a better understanding of gender, and to promote the use of a gender lens throughout the work of foundations.
- Social inclusion
- Producing and disseminating knowledge through webinars and publications about applying a gender lens to grantmaking as well as management of internal affairs
- Bringing some of the key issues affecting gender equality to the attention of the philanthropic community through organising stimulating panels at the EFC AGA and Conference
- Organising joint meetings to bring a gender lens to the work developed by other Philea networks, opening up opportunities for collaboration between members
- Increasing awareness of gender equality issues and fighting persistent myths such as “gender” being only about women
The Philea is committed to promoting gender equality. In 2009 we supported the GrantCraft guide, “Funding for Inclusion: Women and Girls in the Equation”. Together with a number of like-minded foundations the thematic network on gender equality was set up in 2014.
Relationship with the SDGs
Understanding European philanthropy, and how its work relates to the Sustainable Development Goals, is essential when it comes to finding ways of leveraging existing and potential areas of synergy.
The work of the Philea’s Thematic Networks cover the entire range of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (even if they don’t always refer to them explicitly), which are a key part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The work of the Gender Equality Network touches upon the following SDGs:
