Funders Forum on Transitioning Cities – Foundations and Cities Shaping Just Urban Futures

The Funders Forum on Transitioning Cities (FFTC) will host “Foundations and Cities Shaping Just Urban Futures”, its biannual learning tour, in Paris on 18-20 March, hosted by Foundation de France.
Paris is a leading city in climate neutrality and social inclusion, offering valuable lessons on how urban transitions can centre both people and planet. This immersive gathering will allow foundations to experience the “just transition” in the making through site visits to key initiatives supported by foundations as well as showcasing Paris’ journey to achieve climate-neutrality in a just way. Participants will exchange with peer foundations, enterprises, social actors and city representatives around the design of multi-stakeholder partnerships.
The learning tour will also include funders-only conversations to envision how the FFTC network can evolve to better support action-oriented collaboration amongst and with the philanthropy sector in 2026 and 2027.
The learning tour is for foundations and philanthropic organisations members of Philea who work in cities, with municipalities and are interested in learning about transformative multi-stakeholder partnerships, including implications from a financial perspective and the importance of participatory grantmaking processes.
The learning tour will centre around three core learning topics: firstly practical examples, including frameworks, programmes and projects, that illustrate how philanthropy can support cities on the pathway to climate-neutrality with an eye for just urban transitions; secondly multi-stakeholder partnerships, including innovative financial tools; and finally, the growing need for peer-learning among foundations working in and with cities.
As the Funders Forum on Transitioning Cities (FFTC) is a learning platform for funders and their partners, we encourage each participating foundation or philanthropic organisation to invite one representative from a partner organisation actively working on socially just urban transitions. This will enrich the dialogue and foster collaborative learning. These partner organisations will be invited to join the first two days of the programme, while the third day will be dedicated exclusively to funders.
Taking place during Philea’s Year of Climate and Environment, the gathering is co-shaped by Philea in close collaboration with the City of Paris and Climate-KIC’s NetZeroCities.
