Evidence and Learning Community of Practice – New Paradigms for Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning: Systems Change With an Equity Lens

The Evidence and Learning Community of Practice will host its inaugural annual in-person event “New Paradigms for Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning: Systems Change With an Equity Lens” on the 10-11 February 2026 in Brussels.
Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) sits at the heart of how foundations understand their contribution to change, yet conventional approaches often struggle to capture the non-linear, long-term nature of systems work and can unintentionally reinforce existing power imbalances.
The gathering will mark a start of the community’s new learning journey, focusing on adapting MEL practices to capture complexities of systems change, while ensuring equitable approaches to redress power imbalances in funder-grantee relationships.
During the event the group will explore key frameworks of systems change thinking in MEL, including the tensions and challenges they entail. The session will be an opportunity to walk through various tools and methods in the sector and to dive into specific case studies from within the group. Equity and communities’ participation in MEL design and implementation will be the dimensions considered throughout the conversations.
The Evidence and Learning Community of Practice gathers foundation professionals interested in exploring new paradigms and practices on various aspects of MEL. Following more informal online activities over the past two years, the group is entering a more structured phase, aiming to establish a strong community committed to exchanging practices and advancing the field towards more effective and streamlined approaches.
