Democracy Network Lunch and Learn – Scaling Up Democracy Funding
The Democracy Network will host a Lunch and Learn on “Scaling Up Democracy Funding in Europe” online on 22 October.
We are facing a dual and contradictory crisis in Europe which can ultimately become an opportunity. One the on hand we see a rapid rise of far-right forces across the continent supported by significant investments from anti-democratic donors. On the other hand we see major international donors backing out of support both thematically and geographically. European philanthropy has to come to terms with the fact that it can no longer rely on external support and that it is high time for a significantly scaled-up investment in our democracies.
Gauri van Gulik and Finn Heinrich will present their recent work, commissioned by the Democracy Network, on building a strong evidence-based case for why more European philanthropies should invest in democracy and their efforts to identify new donors that would be open to adding a democracy element to their grant making strategies.
The Democracy Network Lunch and Learn’s are a series of online conversations that offer funders an informal way to connect, learn from each other’s practices and share strategies.
