Democracy Network – Artificial Intelligence and Democracy

The Democracy Network will host the next Democracy Funders Coffee on “Artificial Intelligence and Democracy” online on 16 June.

Emerging AI technologies are coming into the forefront just as democracy worldwide faces a crisis of confidence. These technologies pose substantial risks and opportunities to the functioning of democracy in our societies, from citizen participation and disinformation to governance and manipulation.

This discussion, led by Power for Democracies will introduce their ongoing exploratory work on how AI is reshaping democratic systems, including emerging risks such as manipulation, disinformation and concentration of power, as well as possible mitigation approaches. Power for Democracies identifies opportunities to support democracy, so finite resources can be channelled for the greatest impact and their recommendations are designed to support donors, foundations and NGOs in their decision-making.

To help funders connect, share learnings and align strategies, the Democracy Network began the Democracy Funders Coffees, informal conversations to better understand how philanthropy can defend and strengthen European democracy together.

This event is open to Philea members and/or foundations supporting democracy.
