Civitates will host an interview with Melissa Spatz from the Moxie Fund US, online on 14 October.

American democracy funders have spent several election cycles working out where the lines sit: what non-partisan democracy support looks like in practice during an electoral period, what philanthropy can resource without straying into partisan or candidate territory, and how to stay responsive when conditions shift fast. These are questions a growing number of European foundations are now asking about their own contexts. 

Ahead of the US midterm elections, Civitates is hosting Melissa Spatz, Co-Executive Director of the Moxie Fund for a conversation on how US foundations are organising in the run-up to the vote. Moxie Fund is a non-partisan pooled fund that is pursuing a holistic approach to defending U.S. democracy. Melissa will talk through how US funders are preparing for November, what previous cycles have taught them, and which approaches hold up under pressure.
