European Philanthropy calls for effective solidarity across borders concerning COVID 19
COVID-19 doesn’t recognise borders, and neither should philanthropy in Europe.
In a letter dated 8 April, the EFC and DAFNE have called on the Presidents of the EU institutions, President von der Leyen (European Commission), President Michel (European Council) and President Sassoli (European Parliament) to facilitate the vital work being done by European philanthropy at this critical juncture. From pooled-emergency funds to supporting the most vulnerable communities, philanthropic organisations have been working tirelessly to mitigate the horrific effects of this global pandemic.
The open letter stresses that although philanthropy across Europe has been quick to respond to the outbreak, it is within the power of EU policymakers to ensure that this work is at its most efficient and is not hindered by cross-border issues. The open letter and its Annex make concrete policy recommendations to enable philanthropy to respond effectively to the COVID-19 crisis.
