Gender Equality Thematic Network stands with LGBTQI communities all over the world on International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia

On the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (17 May), the EFC Gender Equality Thematic Network is raising awareness of the need to defend and advance the rights of the LGBTQI community. This International Day is an appropriate moment to reaffirm that LGBTQI rights are human rights, and that too often people all over the world are seeing these rights denied and their freedoms restricted because of their sexual orientation.

This is even more evident in light of the COVID 19 pandemic, where the LGBTQI community are being affected in diverse ways, from being forced to quarantine in homes where their sexuality is not accepted – causing huge psychological distress – to suffering from discrimination which has been on the increase since the beginning of the pandemic.

As a network of foundations focusing on gender equality we work to make sure that such discriminations will no longer take place, to empower LGBTQI communities, and to ensure that their voices are heard.

About the Gender Equality Network

The network aims to facilitate mutual learning and a better understanding of gender, and to promote the use of a gender lens throughout the work of foundations.
