Bertelsmann Stiftung and AlgorithmWatch publish mapping exploring the deployment of Automated Decision-Making (ADM) and AI-based systems throughout Europe
Bertelsmann Stiftung and AlgorithmWatch have published the 2020 edition of ‘Automating Society’, mapping the deployment of Automated Decision-Making (ADM) and AI-based systems throughout Europe over the past two years.
The mapping charts how the deployment of automated decision-making (ADM) and AI-based systems in Europe has vastly increased over the last two years, affecting the access to rights and services, and thus to opportunities in life, of millions of citizens. The report assesses how automated processes and decisions are currently impacting all aspects of everyday life, ranging from welfare to health, education, justice and policing, in 16 European countries.
It offers a detailed examination of more than 100 examples of ADM systems alongside policy recommendations for how they could be made more beneficial for society, not just well intentioned but poorly implemented.
