Philanthropic actors sign statement on philanthropy’s role in global development ahead of UN Summit of the Future
Philea, along with several Philea members, has signed the OECD Network of Foundations Working for Development and WINGS statement on strengthening the role of private philanthropy in global development, ahead of the UN Summit of the Future 2024.
Alongside 24 other foundations and philanthropy networks, we call for philanthropy to:
- Tackle inequalities and prioritise voices and experiences in the Global South by increasing resources to low-income countries and directing funding toward women, youth, and grassroots funds.
- Move towards a multi-dimensional approach by strengthening cross-sector partnerships, breaking down policy silos, and protecting civic space to enhance development effectiveness.
- Maximise philanthropy’s unique strengths through innovative financing, such as flexible grants and blended finance, while ensuring transparency, accountability, and alignment with local needs.
Several Philea members and partners are sending delegations to the September UNGA Summit of the Future and Philea will report on the main conclusions from the UNGA Summit.
