Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation establish €5 million COVID-19 Emergency Fund
The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation has established a COVID-19 Emergency Fund, with an initial amount of €5 million, to strengthen the resilience of society to COVID-19.
The fund, open to contributions from other donors, will provide support in the 5 areas the foundation works in; health, science, civil society, education and culture and will include helping to overcome shortages in protective material and medical equipment, supporting research on COVID-19, launching the Gulbenkian Care project designed for supporting the elderly and a raft of other initiatives.
The President of the Foundation, Isabel Mota explained that “In a period of exceptional gravity, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in honouring its mission, is strengthening its activities as a contribution to combat the pandemic that jeopardises the continuity of society as we known it”.
