Champalimaud Foundation
Created in 2004 by the will of the late Portuguese entrepreneur, António Champalimaud, the foundation has strived to make significant contributions to the field of biomedical science, particularly in the fields of cancer and neuroscience. On October 2010, the foundation inaugurated the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown, an international centre for transnational research of excellence.
Mission
The mission of the Champalimaud Foundation is to develop programmes of advanced biomedical research and provide clinical care of excellence, with a focus on translating pioneering scientific discoveries into solutions which can improve the quality of life of individuals around the world. This is done with independence, rigour, dedication, creativity and with a commitment to meet the highest ethical and scientific standards. By its actions the Foundation strives to be a world leader in scientific and technological innovation with the ultimate objective of preventing, diagnosing and treating disease. In so doing, the Foundation is guided by the constant challenge of finding new solutions to humanity’s most pressing health problems.
