EFC Gender Equality Network and Children and Youth Thematic Network joint meeting
The EFC’s Gender Equality Network and Children and Youth Thematic Network will host a joint meeting on 18 May exploring children’s rights through a gender lens and seeking to understand how children’s participation can advance gender equality.
Gender equality is inextricably linked to child rights, and too often around the world gender discrimination results in critical child rights violations. To empower boys and girls, to make them feel equally heard and valued, it is critical to mainstream gender equality when working on child rights.
The inspiration for this joint event was born following the launch of the Generation Equality Campaign by UN Women in 2021, which sheds light on the next generations of women’s rights activists, who are fighting to tackle gender inequalities through a multigenerational campaign. Considering the momentum that the Generation Equality campaign has created, the Gender Equality Network and the Children and Youth Network want to join forces to explore synergies, to learn from each other’s experiences and find common lines of work that could facilitate collaboration around the topics of gender equality and children’s rights.
