Democracy Lunch and Learn – Trump’s Victory and How to Counter Elected Authoritarianism
The Democracy Network will host its next Lunch and Learn on 4 December to reflect on the US electoral results and the role that philanthropy in the US and Europe can play to counter elected authoritarianism.
Western democracy is increasingly vulnerable to the erosion of democratic norms and civic space. To prepare and equip US philanthropies to counter elected authoritarianism and advance an inclusive democracy, Keseb, a nonpartisan organisation, released a confidential report with three objectives:
- Provide curated, easily accessible and deployable solutions for funders to adapt to the changing landscape and effectively support practitioners
- Build awareness beyond democracy funders to support the broader philanthropic community, particularly those focused on pluralism and equity
- Develop a compelling case for a cross-thematic philanthropy effort to galvanise the field for action and mitigate fear-based retreat
Yordanos Eyoel, Founder and CEO, and Andrew Clarke, Partner and lead of the Democracy Fellowship initiative, Keseb, will identify what lessons we can draw from the US election results and what strategies European funders can adopt from the report*.
*The report is not public and Philea will only share it with registered participants and funders on the Democracy Network’s mailing list. Keseb invites you to circulate the report only with colleagues and trusted partners. Please do not cite, quote or distribute these materials publicly.
