Arts and Culture Funders Forum – Remote Engagement: Arts and Culture for Youth and Community

The Arts and Culture Funders Forum will host “Remote Engagement: Arts and Culture for Youth and Community”, online on 15 May, the third webinar in the new “Cultural Philanthropy in Action” series.
In a society increasingly polarised and marked by a stark urban-rural divide, citizen engagement in rural areas becomes increasingly challenging, can arts and culture bridge these gaps? By fostering community spirit, cultural expression and identity, the arts can serve as a conduit for social cohesion and engagement, particularly in areas that often feel disconnected from urban cultural hubs. However, artists and cultural institutions suffer from the same challenges when operating in such areas.
Foundations and philanthropic organizations can play a crucial role in supporting arts and culture in rural and remote areas. By investing in cultural initiatives, these organisations can help to build and sustain vibrant local communities, preserve cultural heritage and promote economic development through tourism and cultural industries. Philanthropic support can ensure that the benefits of arts and culture are accessible to all, regardless of geographic location.
Which foundations are currently developing strategies and programmes to support arts and culture in rural and remote areas? What is the rationale of such initiatives and which challenges and opportunities are they faced with? How do you evaluate long-term and short-term effects?
The “Cultural Philanthropy in Action” webinar series invites researchers, artists, cultural practitioners, and philanthropy representatives will share their views and frame a conversation amongst foundations willing to find collaboration opportunities to support artistic freedom against instrumentalisation.
